He did, and this time, Tim finally got his chance. On January 14, 2006, he took his spot as the starting goaltender for the Boston Bruins against the Dallas Stars. His composure and presence were felt immediately, and he was credited as one of the main reasons for the Bruins' resurgence late in the 2005-06 season. During the 2006-2007, Thomas played 66 games in net for Boston, putting up a 3.13 goals-against average and .905 save percentage for the promising young team. Thomas is an extremely well liked face in the locker room and finished the season with 30 wins. He was chosen as winner of the Bruins 7th player award for the second year in a row and the Eddie Shore award recognizing the player with the most hustle and determination.

"The other day I was driving down the road and I was thinking to myself how lucky I've been with the way things have been happening," he said recently. "Just nobody pinch me."

In addition to being an NHL goalie, Tim is also a family man. Tim met his wife Melissa while he was at the UVM, and the couple has two daughters, Kiley and Kelsey, and a son, Keagen. All three are under 7 years old. Tim and Melissa make their home year-round on the North Shore of Massachusetts. During the off season, Tim enjoys hunting, fishing and golfing, along with the occasional trip to his alma mater.
